The Boss CE-3 is supposedly virtually identical to the CE-2, except for the extra stereo options. The main thing I was interested in was comparing background noise. Since my CE-2 was already modded, it wasn't a fair test.

So I replaced the two JRC4558 opamps (still pictured) with Burr Brown OPA2134PA's.

And removed the diode and resistor (top right) for good measure so I didn't have to use an ACA adaptor.

Perhaps I should have moved on to the other usual hi-fi mods, but the amount of background hiss coming out of this CE-3 is quite significant compared with my modded CE-2. Acceptable of course, but it doesn't make the board.
