p90 strat
What I really wanted was a gold top Les Paul with P90s
and tremelo.
What I had lying around was a Mexican strat body, neck
and assorted parts.
Humbucker-sized P90s to the rescue! In this case, GFS
Mean 90s.

The first heartbreaking step was routing the pickup cavity
to fit a humbucker in the neck position.

Somewhere off ebay I found a replacement (brass?) tremelo
bridge for a Mexican body, with larger tremelo block.

Gold American standard tuners. String tree
originally painted gold (pictured), then replaced with an aftermarket
gold tree.

GFS Mean 90 pickups (with gold covers) placed on the GFS
pickguard. I'm using 500k volume and tone pots, and a 3-way telecaster-style switch.

Almost assembled. Unfortunately I discovered
the pickups were out of phase with each other (thanks to the dreadfully
tinny combination sound) and had to swap a pair of wires around.

Here it is. These P90 pickups are higher
output than standard single coils, but still retain a nice top end.

Topping it off with a nice gold neckplate and matching
pearloid trem cover.
Still to do - shielding!
